Sea the Stars wins The Arc in 2009

Antepost odds are well established for the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe 2010 which takes place at Longchamp on 3 October. And once again many British, Irish and international trainers are preparing their thoroughbreds for a shot at the £4 million plus purse. Going again over the one and a half miles on the flat are the horses that came in second and third to MJ Kinane's winning favourite last year. With second placed Youmzain currently being quoted at odds of around 25-1 just one year later. Another year later does of course mean one year older, and this gritty performer is the oldest in this years race by a clear two years. The majority of runners are three to four years old. With the exception of Youmzain, the first six over the line last time out were all four years or younger with a three year old taking the crown.

Cavalryman came in third back then and is also currently fetching odds of 25-1. Now whether you want to put your money on a seven year old is debatable (isn't everything in racing) but 25-1 for a four year old that has expereince over the course and finished in the top three previously has to be a compelling consideration. Dettori has kept faithful to this mount and has ridden the Godolphin owned colt six times since last years Arc. But maybe most notably, the best result was the most recent with a third placed finish a week ago, just a month away from The Arc.

Cavalryman was been beaten by Fame and Glory in June, with Fame and Glory winning the race whilst Dettori's mount came fifth. Fame and Glory will lineup against the Halling Colt again in Paris. This relatively recent Group 1 victory is reflected in the odds for this years Arc with Fame and Glory one of the current favourites to win the race in 2010.

If you like betting on names and not form, then Snow Fairy has to be the horse for you. And like all horses with the best names, Snow Fairy has the longest odds with the bookies as I write this with some offering 40-1. But don't just look at Snow Fairy as a pretty name, as Ryan Moore led this horse to victory in this season's Oaks.

Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe Runners

The Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe is a Group 1 flat horse race which is open to thoroughbreds aged 3 years and up. The race is run at Longchamp in Paris and is ran over a distance of about 2,400 meters or 1 ½ miles. It is an annual classic horse race and usually takes place in the first Sunday of October. This years' race includes an all star cast of thoroughbred race horses. Here’s a brief preview of some of this year’s Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe runners.

From the stables of Sir Michael Stoute, comes Workforce. Workforce is right in the frame for this one after winning in the Derby at Epsom this June. A viictory that not only made punters notice him but that also made other stable owners recognize them as a force to be reckoned with. The colt romped home late on to win by a more than impressive seven lengths.

Next on the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe runners’ list is the Jean-Claude Rouget trained Bekhabad. The horse grabbed a great victory in the last Juddmonte Grand Prix De Paris which was held on 14 July. This French runner is looking to grab another spectacular win in this year’s Arc. Jockey Gerald Mosse is set to get to ride Bekhabad at Longchamp in this Octobers' classic race. With such a tough field though, the local boy will have to run the race of its life to win.

This who's who of racing lineup wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t include the hugely popular Fame and Glory. This four-year-old Aidan O’Brien trained colt has really made his mark this year. Along with jockey Johnny Murtagh, Fame and Glory has bagged four consecutive victories in the Coronation Cup at Epsom, the Royal Whip stakes, Mooresbridge Stakes and the Tattersalls Gold Cup. The last three victories all coming at the Curragh. These victories are proof that this 4 year old colt really deserves to be in the star studded cast list and to make their way to the start line as one of this years’ Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe runners.

The Arc will be held this Sunday 3 October. The race boasts a purse of €6.3 million, and with such a great lineup of Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe runners it shouldn’t fail to live up to the hype.
